Rocky had an unusual start in life that will make him tough going forward. His dam Shining Gold Metal was to be my next replacement bridle horse to show, but lameness issues forced me to just breed her and let her off for a year. She was flushed once, rebred and carried Rocky to almost foaling. Unfortunately, she started colicking and all measures possible to save her and the baby were not successful. A decision was made to take the foal by C-section to save him (Rocky), but resulted in putting the mare down. 24 hours later, a customer of the vet walked in with a recip mare that lost a foal that morning. She was given a shot to go back into premature labor. After putting Rocky in the stall with her, she got up and accepted him as her own and raised him till weaning.
His constant handling as a c-section foal for a couple weeks has make him a people horse. He likes to be with people, lots of personality, and quick to learn. He is not spoiled and has spent a lot of time out being a horse.
