“Ole Rey” is truly a unicorn. We purchased him as a three-year-old from Clayton Edsall’s barn and he has been shown successfully in the limited and intermediate open by Paul Bonnello, with NRCHA earnings of $2,632.17. His biggest accomplishments include the High Herd Score in 2023 Limited Open Futurity in Reno and he tying for 4th in the Open and Intermediate Open and 2nd in Limited Open at the 2024 Open Derby in Winemucca last June earning scores of 74 in the Herd, 72.5 in the Rein and 72.5 in the Fence. He has since been shown very sparingly this year by a non pro boxer, earning a boxing score of 217 in the March Paso Derby. He has won every time he was shown at the open and non pro local cutting events this year with scores consistently in the 72.5-74 range. He recently scored a 72.5 in Reining at the CRCHA Pre-Futurity in the Open Hackamore.
Rey is truly an “old soul” and is the horse for you if want to go be competitive at the NRCHA premier boxing events, but also be shown in the open and non pro classes. He shines in the cutting, and anyone can be successful on him because he is so smooth and cowy. To top it off, he is the kind of horse that is quiet, laid back, willing, and sweet. He needs very little ongoing training and maintenance, making him an easy keeper to enjoy at home!
Ole Rey is a barn favorite because of his “in your pocket” disposition and versatility. He would be perfect for any age. His versatility and demeaner makes him one of those rare gems that allows you to have an all-around horse to enjoy for many years to come. He loves to trail ride, has been roped off of, and has gathered cattle. Not much phases him; he does not spook and has absolutely no bad habits.
Even better, Rey is well seasoned and has always vetted 100 percent clean. He has never been injured and has only been routinely injected in his hocks for maintenance. This is a super nice horse that is one of those that does not come around often. He is still young and has a great career ahead of him.
